My Daughter
In your mothers womb, she decided that I name you
it was the least she could do since I was there to make you.
Before arriving, I named you after your grandmother and her mother too...
knowing all well those would be big shoes to fill telling time till you grew.
I’ll always remember the night before you came into this world you mother was afright, never thinking in her mind she’d make it throught the night.
When I got the call your mom broke her water, I was out of the house and on my way knowing now it was soon time to meet my brand new daughter.
I’ll never forget the day we met, you made your mother struggle so much
Who could have known then the impact you have with just the slightest touch.
So here you come on your way as stubborn as can be, not know one way or the other does she look like you or me, I remember laughing as your mother looked up at me and with a serious look in her face she asking “Can We Leave”
My first response was no way we came in here as two, the only way we’re leaving today is if we’re going home with you.
You finally arrive after hours of painful waiting,
One would think you’d be out already all the time you were taking.
With all the work me and grandma did to get to out that day,You would think your mother would have had something nice to say.
Out from your mom and right into my arms you came,
just as I whisper to you for the first time this is your name.
Outside the room is Grandpa running pacing the hospital like water,
his mind repeating time after time, I can’t wait to meet my new grand-daughter.
Finally it’s time to take both you girls home as a whole new family, looking back now knowing what it meant to be two and what it feels like to be part of three.
You soon took to your mothers bussom with such a fierce apetite,
Looking like my favorite actor Rocky preparing and training before every fight.
You would tire so quickly and soon fall fast asleep,
we and I would stay up every night with not as much as a peep.
We would wait patiently for you to wake never knowing just when,
Asking God to give us strength just to do it all again.
Soon after you arrived, I wanted so much to be part of your life,
My decision to take you to breakfast monthly, would be anything but strife.
We took you proudly everywhere in tow, whether is was Wal-Mart Target, or just up the road, in our arms, you were fine where ever we’d go.
I took time from work just to take you to the each doctor appointment, you mother had you for nine months, it was my turn for enjoyment.
I remember like yesterday, oh those days I remember, standing so proud as you showed everyone how loud you could be, I never minded; simply smiling with glee.
It was for me you were crying to was no match not for your mother she didn’t mind, and I didn’t mind. It was like music to hear that you were , the weather was no match It wasn’t much later that both Diane and I took for granted,
The love you brought to our lives.
